Five odd characters join forces to help save the world in Marvel Studio's science fiction adventure.
Chris Pratt, an easy-going, likable actor from Parks and Recreation is Peter Quill, a thief who calls himself "Star Lord". He flies from planet to planet looking for something that he can sell to the highest bidder. But, when he comes into contact with a magical orb, he has no idea of the dangerous powers it contains.
Quill grooves to 1970s tunes that he plays on a vintage Walkman that his mother left him. He's a refreshing anti-hero and fun to watch.
A dangerous villain wants the orb to use its powers to destroy the universe, so Quill joins up with Gamora, a sexy, green alien (played by Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer, played by fighter Dave Bautista, and two CG characters, Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Groot, a tree-like figure who says one sentence over and over again "I am Groot", he's voiced by Vin Diesel ( but, I guess it could have been anyone's voice because it's literally unrecognizable).
The group doesn't possess any real super powers, but they sure do have a lot of heart. They can throw a good punch and even though they're up against a more powerful and better equipped army, they can hold their own.
Directed by James Gunn, the fight scenes are plentiful and exciting and although the plot is not new, the characters are fun and the added comedy is welcome. Best of all, is the character Quill, he's a loyal friend that doesn't take himself too seriously, and Pratt makes a perfect "Star Lord".
