Wonder was a beautifully touching film about a boy and his family. August, or Auggie, was born with a facial deformity and has spent most of his life on and out of hospitals. He has been home school most of his life as a result. His parents are obviously protective of him, but pushed by his parents to attend regular school and enroll him.
Via's sums up this story quite nicely: Auggie is the sun and the family and everyone else are the planets that revolve around him. And in this film, that isn't exactly a bad thing as Auggie brings out the best in everyone, and they too bring out the best in him.
Wonder hit hard, and the first half of the movie did not hold back its punches. From the real struggles of the sister who felt unimportant and alone, to the mother who put her life on hold to care for her son, and to the friends whose own crisis created conflicts between each other. It was such a down-to-earth film that didn't need to play up the drama, because it found its power in how real these events were. Anyone can relate, whether it was to Miranda, or Via, Auggie, or Jack, or even Isabel and Nate. These little events, that all pile up to create life, we can all relate to them and that's what gets you.
