The Core

The Core

Let me open by saying that The Core has got to be one of the worst science fiction movies I have ever seen.  To qualify that, the campy Mars Attacks is Oscar material by comparison.

While The Core offers some basic visuals that once seen are too often repeated throughout the film.  The visuals would have been spectacular ten years ago but now are just common place.  Advertised as a movie that brings science back to science fiction is a laugh.  Most middle school children could pick the “science” apart.  Add this to the poor script and direction and you'll wish that this film had been buried at the center of the Earth.

The story is one where mankind has found yet another way to screw up the planet and turns to science to save us all.  A military weapon has stopped the molten core of the Earth from spinning and now is forced to call up on a pompous scientist / writer, an outcast scientist, a college professor and two NASA pilots.  These roles are filled by Aaron Eckhart, Stanley Tucci, Delroy Lindo, Tchéky Karyo, Hilary Swank and Bruce Greenwood.  What a shame to waste such talent.

So as not to bore you as much as the actual film, the story goes as such: man screws up Earth; Man calls on science to save Earth; science devises way to save Earth; love appears between heroes; few heroes survive; loving couple of heroes are rescued; who cares.

Being released on April 1st is appropriate as this film is just a joke.
